 Why a MDG Portal in Bangla The MDGs constitute one of the most precise target-oriented and time-bound steps for eradication of some the vestiges of worst kinds of human depreciation people suffer from particularly in the developing and the least developed countries. These encompass general poverty reduction to specific issues such as related to lowering of maternal mortality and HIV/AIDS. In Bangladesh, substantial progress has been made in poverty reduction and lowering infant mortality. On the other hand, maternal mortality has fallen rather slowly while the awareness regarding HIV/AIDS is just daring. On the whole the progress has been uneven and much more needs to be done in the future by the year 2015, the terminal date set for achieving the MDGs. To speed up the process, firm initiation are needed both in institutionalization of policies and raising awareness. Bangladesh has already completed an important initial policy step by preparing an interim poverty reduction strategy which explicitly includes quite a few of the MDG issues. One of the major development activities of the Bangladesh Government is to institutionalise the implementation of the strategy for poverty reduction, which clearly links it with several of the MDGs. Furthermore, the Bangladesh Government also recognises the important of implementing the MDG vision as explained in the National Action Plan on ICT , which emphasises among others the development of contents for Internet and Internet in Bangla.
