Bangladesh and UNDP : Combat
HIV/AIDS
HIV/AIDS
: Has the potential to undo decades of development in Bangladesh. UNDP
joins others at the frontline to combat this devastating disease by
promoting a multi-sectoral approach aimed at ensuring that the
prevalence of HIV/AIDS remains low. Also through mass media campaigns
targeted to vulnerable groups and by establishing a national network of
safe blood transfusion units.
Projects on HIV/AIDS
BGD/97/005 - Safe Blood Transfusion Project : Legislation on safe
blood transfusion was drafted and approved through this initiative.
The project focuses on ensuring safe blood transfusions nation-wide
through the training of service providers and strengthening their
institutions.
BGD/97/031 - Multisectoral HIV/AIDS Prevention Programme (MAPP):
The main objectives of this project is to support a multisectoral
approach to keep the prevalence of HIV/AIDS low in Bangladesh. One key
components is to raise awareness among policy makers and the general
population about the devastating potential of the disease in
Bangladesh. The programme also provides support for creating an
enabling environment for vulnerable groups.
