Course Objective
To increase awareness and understanding of the analytical and operational
aspects of poverty reduction and other MDGs among government officials in
Bangladesh. Also to enhance the capacity of staff of the Ministries to plan
for and monitor the MDG-linked policies. This objective is driven by the
fact that while general MDG awareness is already high, the linkages between
the MDGs and existing poverty monitoring efforts is not well elaborated.
This workshop will be the first step toward developing a capacity
development partnership (CDP) program for Bangladesh to meet the government
goals of poverty reduction and other MDGs.
Learning Objectives
After completing the training course, the participant should be familiar

key phrases, concepts, and issues related to MDG indicators, priorities,
budgets, M&E, data requirements and data analysis

main tools of data collection and analysis

various policy issues related to MDG and poverty monitoring and
evaluation

key institutional challenges to more effective M&E systems

Aims

review concepts and issues regarding MDG indicators, prioritization and
budget allocation

introduce various issues and tools on how to effectively monitor and
evaluate poverty reduction goals and MDGs

to
introduce various issues in the relationship between MDGs, the PRSP,
Medium Term Expenditure Frameworks and global development initiatives
-
to
understand the data requirements, collection methods, and how to analyze
the data for poverty and MDG monitoring and evaluation
Targeted Participants
Different line
ministries, Central bank, research organisations and civil society
organisations including NGOs and the Planning Commission, officials involved
in formulating /implementing Poverty Reduction Strategy Plans and Programs,
and Poverty Monitoring.
